Collection Development

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT

Collection development policy can be summarized as the provision, organization and dedication of printed or electronic materials that will meet educational, research and cultural needs of the university. In this context, main objectives in collection development can be listed as follows:

·         To provide book, journal, electronic information resources and visual and audial resources in order to support educational and intellectual activities

·         To provide necessary resources for the researches

·         To provide main and supplementary resources for each course

·         To provide reference resources for any subject

Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Central Library has been developing its collection by purchasing and donations.

Book Donation

Criterias for Resource Selection

Any resource that will be admitted to the library via donation are sellected in accordance with the below criterias on condition that they are within the line of the determined general educational objectives of the university.

Here are the criterias for material sellection:

·         The publications to be donated are supposed to have necessary qualities of the university library, be updated and scientific, proper to the education offered at the university and support researchers socially and culturally.

·         The resources of natural sciences are supposed to be updated and the resources of social sciences are supposed to have literal qualities.

·         The publications delivered as the promotions of the newspaper are not accepted if they differ in paper, printing and content.

·         The publications that are worn out and whose pages are missing are not accepted.

·         The publications whose contents include political propoganda are not accepted.

·         The periodicals that do not have volume integrity or do not provide integrity with the existing collection are not accepted.

·         The materials of primary or secondary education, dublications are not accepted.

·         A private collection or a shelf for the person who donates in such a way to  spoil the integrity of the compilation of the library is not possible.

·         The authorithy and rights to present the publications on the shelves and send the ones that has two copies as donation or exchange to other units or institution libraries belong to Directorate of Library and Documentation Centre.

·         The library is not responsible for announcing the materials to be donated, but the donated materials are listed.

·         Information stamp is used for the materials to be donated by Directorate of Library and Documentation as “ donated by …….”

·         The materials that are appropirate for library collection are given asset id, undergo the processes applied for other materials and added to the collection. The person or the institution who donates material are sent a letter of thanks.

·         The persons who donates cannot demand for a right for the materials they donate.

Donation Policy

The donated books periodicals, non-bool materials are evaluated and accepted within the framework of material collection development policy by Material Sellection Committee consisting of three staff of Directorate of Library and Documentation.
