The project developed by students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University was awarded First Prize among 222 projects evaluated within the scope of the TUSAŞ LIFT-UP Industry-Oriented Undergraduate Graduation Projects Program.
Within the project titled “Design, Manufacturing, and Testing of a Mechanism Driven by Shape Memory Alloys (SMA)”, an innovative locking mechanism was developed for use in aircraft landing gear doors. The designed system offers an alternative to existing hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical solutions. During the project process, a prototype was manufactured and tested under real operating conditions. In addition, a patent application has been completed for the developed system.
The project team consists of our department students Samet Can Akçay (team leader), Mahmut Esad Aslan, and Faruk Çatal. The project was supervised academically by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Pınarbaşı, while Hüseyin Cemal Taştan served as the industry advisor.
This achievement once again demonstrates the capability of AYBU students to develop innovative and practical engineering solutions within the framework of university–industry collaboration.
