Abstract:
‘This study investigates individual trade-offs between environmental protection and economic growth by integrating macroeconomic indicators with psychological and demographic variables from the World Values Survey (Wave 6). Unlike Lou et al. (2022), who applied machine-learning techniques to a narrow feature set, our approach expands the framework to include 39 predictors spanning economic, demographic and psychological domains. We analyze responses from 72 739 individuals across 47 countries to build and evaluate predictive models, offering deeper insights into the factors that drive people’s environmental–economic preferences.’
