Abstract:

Event cameras are a novel type of vision sensor whose operating principle closely resembles that of the human eye. Unlike traditional sensors such as CCD and CMOS, which capture light synchronously at fixed intervals, event cameras operate asynchronously and only generate output when there is a significant change in light intensity. As a result, only the pixels that detect meaningful changes produce data, effectively avoiding redundant and unnecessary information from static regions. This distinctive mechanism leads to faster response times and lower data rates, but it also poses new challenges in data processing and algorithm design, as event cameras are still a relatively emerging technology. Fiducial markers, on the other hand, are compact visual patterns that encode small amounts of information and are commonly used in robotics for localization and tracking. This presentation explores the integration of event cameras with fiducial marker detection systems, highlighting the potential advantages, challenges, and future directions in combining these two technologies.
