About compulsory summer internship Q&A
1. Can I do a voluntary internship whenever I want?
No. A voluntary internship can only be done once and only after the completion of summer internships.
2. Can I do the internship whenever I want?
No. The mandatory summer internship must be scheduled so that it does not overlap with final exams or summer school. It may overlap with the make-up exam dates.
3. When can I complete my summer internships?
Third-year students can complete both of their internships within the same summer term. However, second- and fourth-year students cannot. Applicants who are third- or fourth-year students must have completed and successfully passed the majority of the department courses from their current and previous years.
4. Can I do both of my internships at the same company?
Yes. However, the company must be a large-scale enterprise specializing in electrical and electronics engineering.
5. Can I do my internship at any company?
No. The company must employ at least three engineers, including at least one electrical-electronics engineer.
6. Can I have the internship acceptance form signed and submit it to the school at any time before my internship begins to complete the required Social Security Institution (SGK) procedures?
No. The final week of the make-up exams of the spring semester is the latest deadline to submit the documents to the department's internship committee member. Students who plan to start their internships immediately after the final exams must complete all procedures at least 15 days in advance.
7. Can I prepare the internship diary by hand and in any format I want?
No. The internship diary is the document where the student reports all the activities carried out during the internship, and a template is available on the department's website under the "Internship Documents" section. On the first page, the diary must include internship information, and subsequent pages must include "date" and "daily tasks." The diary must be written in Times New Roman font, size 12, with page numbers on each page. It should focus on the work performed during the internship rather than theoretical information. The diary must be spiral-bound. It must not be prepared as a photo album.
8. In which language should I prepare the internship diary?
The internship diary must be written in English. If the company has objections to a foreign language, the student must prepare a Turkish version as well, have it approved by the company, and submit both the English and Turkish versions to the internship committee.
9. I completed my internship abroad and prepared my diary in a language other than English. What should I do?
You must submit a notarized translation of your internship reports.
10. Does the internship diary need to be approved by the responsible engineer?
Yes. After completing the diary, each page must be individually stamped and signed by the supervising engineer at the workplace. If any requirement is missing, the internship committee may cancel the internship without providing an opportunity for correction. It is not necessary to add the diploma number or professional license number to the diary.
11. I completed my internship; when should I submit my diary?
You must submit the sealed evaluation form (sealed and signed at the closure point) and the internship diary to the internship committee within the second week following the start of the semester after your summer internship. This submission deadline does not apply to final-year students who are in graduation status.
12. What should I pay attention to when filling out the internship diary?
The content of the internship diary should consist of observations made personally by the student and sourced content with appropriate referencing. If deemed necessary, the internship committee may check the diaries through plagiarism detection programs. If a high similarity rate is detected, the student's diary will be canceled, and the student will fail the course.
