On the occasion of the May 19 Commemoration of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day holiday, an enjoyable and productive event was organized with our graduate students in the Önder Neighborhood. The program, which started at 1:30 p.m. under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Osman Düzgün and Dr. Mehmet Sadık Gür, brought together students and academics for a socially and culturally enriching day.

After the group gathered, participants had the opportunity to taste some of the most popular dishes of Syrian cuisine, including ful, falafel, and hummus. During the meal, conversations on the relationship between language and culture added a meaningful dimension to the event.

Following the meal, the group moved to another venue for dessert, where participants enjoyed Syrian-style cheese künefe and spent pleasant time at a place famous for its croissants. Fresh strawberries bought from the Önder Neighborhood market by one of the participants also added color to the day.

As part of the program, participants visited a well-known coffee and nuts shop in the neighborhood and tasted traditional Arabic coffee. Afterwards, the tomb of the mother of Hacı Bayram Veli was visited.

The event concluded with a visit to a non-governmental organization engaged in charitable activities. The program, which combined cultural and spiritual elements, left participants with memorable experiences and concluded with wishes for similar events to continue in Ankara’s historical and touristic locations.
